Chorley Heritage Trail Location 7

Chorley Town Hall was opened in 1879. It was built on the site of another coaching inn called the ‘Gillibrand Arms’. Chorley’s first Town Hall, built in 1802, stood opposite until the 1930s.

Behind the Town Hall was the ‘Town Green’, now St Thomas’s Square. The Police Station and Law Courts now occupy this site.

Pass the front of the Town Hall and cross over St Thomas’s Road. Continue down Market Street. On your right enter St Mary’s Walk through a stone archway. Notice a plaque commemorating Chorley’s Catholic Martyr, the Blessed Roger Wrennall.
