Forthcoming Exhibition at Chorley Heritage Centre, Astley Hall Farmhouse

From the beginning of February until the end of April, the Heritage Centre’s next exhibition will cover two different aspects of Chorley’s social and business heritage.

The Heritage Group’s own part of the exhibition, entitled “Chorley’s Banks and Building Societies”, includes research done by Heritage Group members, recollections provided by bank and building society employees, old photographs and memorabilia.

Running alongside is a presentation of research done by UCLan students for their Community History degree module. This year, and for a number of past years, the Chorley Heritage Group has supported UCLan students with such projects. With additional help and resources provided by Chorley Historical and Archaeological Society, the students have researched “The Development of the Co-operative Movement in Chorley”.

Many local people spent their working lives in Chorley’s bank and building societies, and in different areas of the Co-operative Society. Almost everybody of retirement age is likely to remember their family’s Co-operative number! This is an opportunity for old and young, grandparents, parents and children to re-visit or discover aspects of Chorley’s past.

The Heritage Centre is open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12 noon – 3.15 p.m., and on Friday and at weekends at the same times when the lower gallery of Astley Hall Farmhouse is occupied.

Admission is free, but donations are welcome. The Heritage Centre’s valuable work is self-supporting.
